Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a person you can hire to help you figure out complex medical decisions? Like a case manager or patient advocate? And if that exists HOW do you find someone?

Patient Advocates exist! You don’t have to hire them, hospitals usually have a social worker on hand. What state? I can send links!

Check with your pcp’s office or insurance. Both tend to have a case manager or cm department.

You might already have a Patient Advocate resource available to you depending on the hospital/health-care system you’re in. Otherwise, DC seems to have a bunch of PA organizations. Also look it up on Angie’s List in case they have any good recommendations

The best advocacy I have encountered is through The American Cancer Society. They were magnificent in providing resources for us. Of course it’s specific to our needs with cancer.

There was a story about people that do this on NPR some time within the last year—I can’t look it up at the moment

I was going to say hospitals, as Christa did. They sent people in to help me when I was having that major surgery in 2011.

what about at the hospital? the advocates that helped me with medicaid were located inside the hospital that my PH doc works in.
